Even without saying a word, young actors Donny Pangilinan and Kisses Delavin, DonKiss, are able to light up a space, be it a busy dressing room or a chilly photo shoot studio. Their mere presence gives off good vibes and it’s not just because of their star quality and stunning good looks. Such positive energy and charisma, together with their talents and onscreen chemistry, are just some of the reasons why they were cast in the daytime soap opera Playhouse.

The upcoming feel-good program, headlined by Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo, is the first teleserye project of the Donny and Kisses tandem collectively known as DonKiss. “Pagdating namin sa set, memorized na namin ang lines,” Kisses remarks to Inside Showbiz Weekly on how it is on set for her and Donny. The 19-year-old Pinoy Big Brother alumna adds, “Pero siyempre nag-tho-throw lines kami para perfect ‘yung take. Siyempre, first teleserye ko ito so ibibigay ko talaga ang lahat para matuto.”

Donny, 20, recalls, “At first I wasn’t sure na ako talaga ‘yung pinili. I didn’t know what to expect. I still can’t contain my excitement. Everyone makes us feel like we’re welcome atsaka parang walang masyadong pressure from the other actors kasi they really want us to take our time, to improve our craft, and just be the best that we can be. Kaya sobrang blessed namin to be part of the GMO unit, to be part of this show as well.”

The ZekShie Story

Donny plays the role of basketball varsity player and campus heartthrob Zeke Domingo while Kisses is his schoolmate, Shiela Ubaldo. Shiela is the sweet, funny, and determined younger sister of Zanjoe’s character. There are a lot of things to look forward to in the ZekShie plotline, the rising stars assure. ‘‘Hindi ko na sasabihin kung sino. Parang someone’s trying to put a lot of effort just to be noticed,” Donny teases. “Pero subject to change. Abangan natin,” quips Kisses.

They go on to describe their characters in the teleserye that premieres on September 17. “For Zeke, you hear it all the time, just don’t judge a book by its cover. Misunderstood siya palagi. They think mayabang siya. Parang ganun ‘yung version of Zeke inside of them but he’s really not like that. So, I think it is important that when you meet someone, take away everything that you think of this person first,” notes Donny.

As for Kisses, she details: “Nakaka-relate ako kay Shiela kasi ako din ‘yung type na gusto ko ipaghintay muna ‘yung lahat ng about sa pag-ibig kasi hindi ko naman alam ‘yung totoong kahihinatnan ng pag-ru-rush ng pag-ibig. At siyempre nakaka-relate ako ‘yung si Shiela ‘yung core niya is family niya.” The only child of Gilbert and Carrie Delavin says, “Si Shiela kasi kaya niyang i-give up ang lahat para sa kuya at lola niya. I think ‘yun ‘yung main takeaway talaga ng kabataan ngayon.”

Budding Actors

Playhouse may be the first TV project of Donny and Kisses, but they were already paired up in the movie Walwal (June 2018). “Coming from Walwal, very interesting kasi sobrang iba ‘yung characters namin sa Playhouse. And I think it’s a perfect way for Kisses and I to grow because it’s an entirely different attack on how we’re gonna be these characters,” says Donny. Kisses agrees, “Iba na talaga ‘yung character ni Shiela from Ruby. Pero si Zeke din naman iba. Animated din kasi si Bobby.”

Kisses cannot quite believe how things have been panning out for DonKiss after Donny became her escort in her 18th birthday in 2017. “Actually, nakakagulat nga eh kasi biglang nagkasama kami sa movie at ngayon, teleserye. So grateful.” They have another movie project in the works: the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Fantastika bannered by Vice Ganda.

As they are now working on TV and movie projects, Donny comments on the DonKiss tandem: “Nagtutulungan kami ni Kisses. I feel like mas kumportable na kami sa mga scenes, sa mga kailangang sabihin, sa kailangang gawin. Si Kisses, I would say sobrang game siya sa kahit ano so gagawin niya talaga ang kailangan para lang sa scene. She’s very easy and fun to work with.” Kisses also says the same of Donny, adding that the MYX VJ is able to utilize his hosting skills when acting.

  • Zeke’s role in Playhouse is not a basketball varsity player but a track and field athlete. Anyways, extending our heartfelt thanks for featuring DonKiss here. DonKiss are role models.
