While her last name carries weight in the industry, Heaven Peralejo believes that it is her talent, drive and determination that will make her a star.
“Having a last name like Peralejo is an advantage, yes. Kasi mabilis kang maalala ng mga tao,” says the teen star who shares the same DNA for stardom as her relatives Paula and Rica Peralejo, the teen queens of the ‘90s. “Pero iba kasi si Rica Peralejo, iba si Paula Peralejo, at iba rin si Heaven Peralejo,” says the 18-year old. “Masasabi ko na walang fear or pressure to be compared to Ninang Rica.”
As a Peralejo, Heaven was drawn to the glamorous life of showbiz, which made her start her career young; jumping into the limelight and auditioning for commercials and small projects when she was still a child.
In 2009, Heaven was supposed to be one of the characters in a movie And I Love You So. “But I had to back out, because ‘yung school ko kasi super strict talaga, bawal mag-artista.” When the academe discovered her extra-curricular pursuits, they made Heaven choose between her studies or the movie. “I chose to finish high school first,” she explains. “I believe that it happened for a reason.”
Her abrupt hiatus from showbiz also followed an unfortunate incident, which left the young talent traumatized. “There was one time, bata pa lang ako,” she remembers. “Mayroong director sa set na naninigaw siya, nagagalit. Of course, it’s normal to experience that on set now, but for a kid, nakakatakot talaga para sa ‘kin noon,” she says.
It was a jarring experience for her who’s always been protected and sheltered. “Lumaki ako sa household na never ako sinigawan or kahit man lang kinurot. Never talaga, kaya na-trauma ako sa experience na ‘yun with that director,” reveals Heaven, whose parents had split up when she was young. That incident on set left a bad taste in her mouth, and she decided that maybe it was best to set aside her dreams of becoming an actress.
