She has bagged awards and made countless records. She has won the hearts of people in the country and even abroad. She has made achievements not just as a television host but also as an actress, performer, songwriter, singer, endorser, and book author. Ever since her television debut on July 4, 2015, everything has just been on the upturn for Maine Mendoza. And, she is still clearly on the rise.
Her transformation from being an online sensation as the Dubsmash Queen to becoming a national phenomenon as Yaya Dub, one half of the AlDub love team with Alden Richards, will always be one for the books. It is a noteworthy success story that is insurmountable up to this day, even gaining international attention from the likes of Twitter and Guinness World Records. Maine, however, notes that her showbiz path is not just all about successes even if her road to fame is marked by a quick, skyrocketing journey.
“Roller-coaster of emotions kasi ang dami na ring nangyari kahit na sasabihin mong three years lang ‘yun. Ang dami ko ng pinagdaanan as Maine na rin, not just as Yaya Dub and ‘yung AlDub team-up,” the 23-year-old superstar shares with Inside Showbiz Weekly. “So ‘yun, roller-coaster siya. Pero so far, so good. Gusto ko ‘yung thrill.”
Maine Mendoza is currently seen on Eat Bulaga six days a week as part of the Juan for All, All for One segment—the same portion that launched her into stardom as Yaya Dub. However, the lanky and wacky character garbed in uniform with a red and white polka dot apron is no longer seen on the boob tube as the Kalyeserye has come to an end.
“Actually, si Yaya Dub, well, wala akong balita sa kaniya. Siguro nagbakasyon muna siya at hindi natin alam kung kailan siya babalik pero sigurado naman ako na babalik at babalik pa rin siya.” She clarifies that she would like to portray Yaya Dub again. “Oo naman kasi doon ako nag-start so hindi ko basta-basta kakalimutan nalang si Divina Ursula, ‘yung nagsimula ng career ko sa showbiz. So importante siya sa akin.”
It has also been three years since AlDub made the whole country swoon over their split-screen love story in the Kalyeserye of noontime variety program Eat Bulaga. It all began on July 16, 2015. Right now, however, Maine and Alden are given individual projects, much to the dismay of fans who want them to be together forever. Other supporters, meanwhile, welcome the change as it allows for Maine and Alden to stand on their own and accomplish things without having to rely on each other.
“Well, okay din naman kasi we have to grow as two individuals din naman, as two different artists. And siya rin naman kasi gusto rin niya na parang makabalik sa ginagawa niya before, sa soap opera. At ako naman, happy naman ako sa ginagawa ko lang ngayon kahit sa Bulaga lang ako but I’m trying to explore new things para sa mga fans. Abangan nalang nila kung ano pang mga mangyayari sa amin as individuals,” she remarks.
