It has just been a few days since Liza Soberano’s announcement to withdraw from the highly anticipated Darna project due to an injury that she sustained from filming Bagani last year and fans have been pouring their sympathies for the actress non-stop. Along with the many fans and netizens who have been sending Liza messages of love, Angel Locsin, Nadine Lustre, and Kathryn Bernardo have also shared their well wishes for the actress after her emotional announcement.
Angel Locsin, Nadine Lustre, and Kathryn Bernardo, all shared their messages of sympathy to Liza Soberano through interviews in separate occasions.
In an interview with ABS-CBN Entertainment’s MJ Felipe, Angel detailed how she tried to reach out to Liza after the announcement was made. “Nag-alala ako sa kaniya,” said Angel of Liza. “Kung mayroon man sigurong tao na makakaintindi sa pinagdadaanan niya ngayon, ako iyon. Nag-alala ako na sana okay lang siya. So nag-try ako mag-message sa kanya. Sabi ko lang, ‘Liza.’ “Sagot niya, ‘Ate, I’m sorry.”
Angel also backed up Liza for her decision to put herself first before the role. “Naramdaman ko kung gaano siya ka-devastated sa nangyari and kung gaano niya kagusto i-please yung network and fans niya na nag-aantay. Pero siyempre, kailangan din niyang alagaan iyong sarili niya. Siguro ganoon din niya kamahal yung role, na feeling niya hindi niya maibibigay iyong buo niya.”
On the topic of whether she is open to playing the iconic role of Darna one more time, Angel said, “Of course masaya ako sa pagmamahal na binigay nila, pero no.”
Nadine Lustre, also shared her sympathies for Liza through an interview with ABS-CBN Entertainment’s MJ Felipe during the Skechers Move in Style event “D’Lites x Bang” held last April 6 in The Palace. “We were talking about it during the Christmas special she showed me her finger. Well, it’s her decision we have to respect it. It would’ve been really nice to see her coz she was really into it na. Sayang,” shared Nadine.
As for taking on the coveted role, Nadine shared that she believes that the part will go to the actress who truly deserves it. She told MJ, “I thank everyone for the support but I mean, Darna will be given to someone who is deserving for the role. I supper appreciate that kasi for them to see me as a figure or a person that is strong and empowered woman, [because] Darna is strong.“
Kathryn Bernardo also expressed her sympathies for her fellow actress through an interview with ABS-CBN Entertainment, “Nalungkot ako kasi alam ko yung preparations niya, yung workout yung dietniya. Sana makahanap ng right doctor for the finger kasi hindi yun joke. Sa fight scenes pa lang, napakahirap nun.”
In a separate interview during the Happy Skin ACTIVE Fitness Party last April 7 at the SM North EDSA Activity Center, Kathryn Bernardo gave the members of the press and the media her answer to playing the iconic Filipina super hero, “Personally, Darna is such an iconic role. Alam mo, dream lahat ng babae siguro na maging si Darna, pero, siguro, it’s not for me kasi hindi porke’t gusto mo yung role, pwede siya sayo eh.”
Kathryn further explained that her age is also a factor that she considered when she thought of the role, “For me, may binabagayan siya, and yung nai-imagine, napipiktyuran ko as Darna is someone who’s a bit older than me. Someone na parang mas woman. Woman na talaga.”
