Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz and director Lav Diaz, win in Berlin International Film Festival

The film “Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis” or “A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery” won the Alfred Bauer Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival last February 18, 2016.

The Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz film is an eight-hour black-and-white historical drama. It also stars Alessandra de Rossi, Angel Aquino and Cherie Gil, and is produced by Paul Soriano.
The film is about the bloody 1896 Philippine Revolution and the hope of freedom of the Filipinos, headed by revolutionary leaders, from over 300 years of being under the rule of the country Spain.

On the other hand, the cast and members of the film showed their love for the renowned actress and Berlin Film Festival jury, Meryl Streep.
Actress Angel Aquino wrote; “20Feb16 this kiss.. Not even in my wildest dreams.. I almost did not survive it. I thought I can never love Meryl Streep more…”

The Prize of Alfred Bauer is given to films that emulates new screen perspectives on cinematic art – the award is in memory of the film festival founder.
